Private Timber Frame Courses and Training
Timber Frame Courses can be designed to suit your requirements, from a one day workshop to several days designed around your schedule and students. The tool kit can be provided while the host will provide covered space or sun shade, power and washrooms. The timber can usually be sourced from a local supplier and we can help with sourcing and preparing the order.

Examples of Private Courses

Willowbank School or Restoration Arts
Jason Gibson is invited on a regular basis to work with Willowbank and provide the students with training on layout and cutting traditional timber frame joinery as well as terminology and basic theory. This course usually runs from 3 to 5 days, with 10 - 15 students depending on the schedule at the college

Hollow Water
In September 2025, we delivered a six-day Square Rule Timber Frame training at Hollow Water First Nation, located on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, about 2.5 hours north of Winnipeg. Hosted under the community’s outdoor skating rink, the course used White Pine timbers from Manitou Forest Products in Northern Ontario and provided a hands-on, on-site learning experience.

World Skills Competition Training
It was great to have Logan Peters in our shop with his coach David Jones. Logan is training
for the Worlds Skills competition carpentry in Shanghai 2026. Logan spent a day and a half
learning timber cutting and layout from Todd Sullivan. Thanks for coming Logan and good
luck in Shanghai!

Training the Trainers
A course was designed and delivered over a week-end to 12 college instructors, giving them the tools and hands on knowledge to deliver timber frame content in their college courses during the school year.

High School
Working together with high school teachers bringing timberframe hands-on learning to students. From one or two days to a week of continuous learning.

Timber Frame with Hip Rafters
This student was looking to learn hip roof joinery and square rule layout. A hip roof building was designed that allowed for square rule joinery to be cut the first week followed by a second week of timber roof work. The timber plates were assembled on the ground so the roof parts could be worked on in the timber shop at a safe height. Timber hip rafters and jacks were calculated and cut by the student. The timber frame course resulted in a stunning 14 x 18 hip roof gazebo. This course was taught by Todd Sullivan and Jason Gibson.
